Morro Bay is located on the central coast of California about half way between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Morro Rock is an exstinct volcano one of nine stretching for 12 miles. Morro Rock is 576 ft high and approximately 21 million years old. First sighted in 1542 by Juan Cabrillo. Originally the rock was surrounded by water. The rock was quarried giving it its present shape and the quarried rock used to build the breakwater for Morro Bay.
